Their first priority is to create a safe, happy, engaging and stimulating learning environment for the children and believe me they do a super job. The early learning environment is a partnership between home and school and my teachers are proactive in communicating with parents so that we know exactly what the parents’ expectations are.
Meet The Team

Educating children is not just about getting ready for Primary 1 or first grade - the IQ (intelligence quotient). It is about curiosity, exploration, experiences, self-esteem and interactions - the EQ (emotional quotient). Children have an innate sense of wonder and awe and are natural explorers. My aim at Swallows and Amazons is to allow this instinctive desire for enquiry to flourish.
All of us at Swallows and Amazons believe children should have fun and evidence shows that preschool aged children learn most through play. Play is essential for children to develop high-level social strategies as well as physical and mental skills. At Swallows and Amazons my teachers know why, when and how they can help ‘play’ become an enriching, meaningful learning experience so that children can fulfill their potential. They create the early learning environment where the children can explore and discover in a safe and caring environment.
Learning habits acquired in a child’s early years persist into later life. Successful adults tend to be lifelong learners but this habit of enquiry and love of learning depends on an education that rewards exploration and questioning. If a person wants to do something for themselves, they will do it well and derive satisfaction from the experience. If they are simply doing what they are told it becomes a ‘task’.
In creating a developmental childhood education programme, we are laying the foundations for all future learning. As the curriculum develops, basic concepts are revisited and built upon until children grasp them fully. In this enquiry based approach, the traditional maths, literacy, writing and foreign language skills are not learnt independently of each other. On the contrary, they are so interrelated that it may be hard to distinguish one from the other. Pre-school learning is about experiences and interacting with peers, adults and the environment – a version of real life! We must provide these opportunities.
In the Erikson Theory (1963) two stages of development for preschool children are described:
1) PRE-KINDERGARTEN is a period of interest, active exploration and readiness for learning
2) KINDERGARTEN is characterised by children’s readiness for the challenge of new and exciting ideas and for constructing things. At this stage, opportunities for physical, intellectual and social accomplishment with many varied interactions should be provided.
The outcome for the child is success and a feeling of “I can do it!”

My name is Jeannette Yeo and I am the Head Teacher / Curriculum Co-ordinator/ Kindergarten Class Teacher. I started my teaching career, as an Assistant Teacher in a local early learning centre after my A levels and the enriching experience cemented my decision to work with young children. Since then, I have been working in the Early Childhood field for about 17 years, both in the local and international contexts - in inclusive settings for children aged from 2 to 6 year olds. I have also had work experience in the US. For the last 11 years, I have been working in Swallows and Amazons in the various capacities mentioned above. Currently, I hold Bachelors in Education (Early Childhood) (with Hons.), an Advanced Diploma in Special Needs and Inclusive Education and most recently, an Advanced Diploma in Early Childhood Leadership.
I enjoy working in an Early Childhood environment because I get to see the world through the eyes of the children and seeing them acquire skills through their play experiences often leave me in awe and wonder. What more, I get to “play” all day! Working with children gives me an opportunity to see things in a new perspective.
My goal for every child in my care is to become the most successful and confident people that they are made to be. I strongly believe that it is important to support and develop children’s EQ and develop the “soft” skills that will take them not only in the next stage of their lives but also far into their lives.

Hello! I’m Amrit and I have been in the Early Childhood industry for 10 years. I hold a Bachelors of Communications from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and a Post Graduate Diploma in Early Childhood Education. I am the Nursery 2, Parakeets’ class teacher.
I spent the early part of my career as a communication skills coach to undergraduates and adults before becoming a speech and drama teacher at various kindergartens in Singapore. It was not long before I came to realise that nothing satisfies me more than teaching pre-schoolers and building strong foundations in their crucial years.
I then began teaching in an international school for six years which provided me with an invaluable opportunity to understand the learning needs and styles of young learners from a diverse range of cultural backgrounds and develop my teaching abilities as an educator in an environment that focused on learning through play.
I love drama, singing and story-telling and am passionate in making every lesson a fun and exciting experience because young children learn best whilst making meaningful connections to their environment. My goal for children under my care, is to allow them to access their instinctive desire for enquiry and enjoy their day, every day.
As an early childhood educator, I truly believe that children are like sponges, absorbing everything around them and have often seen that making a child do something for the sake of doing it will not develop their curiosity for learning. We have to foster the love of learning in children before they start loving to learn from us. This is the very spirit embodied here at Swallows and Amazons and what makes it an absolute pleasure working with my SAA family!

Hi everyone! I am known as Ms. Jamela to the SAA children and I have been working with Swallows and Amazons since 2019 as the Hornbills’ class teacher. I am the Nursery 1, Egrets class teacher.
I have a foreign degree in Child Development and Education and I hold a Diploma In Early Childhood Care and Education L2 qualification from Singapore’s Early Childhood Developmental Agency (ECDA). I have been in the teaching profession for 14 years and I gained most of my teaching experience in Singapore both in the childcare setting and Montessori setting since 2009.
I took up preschool education for the main reason that I want to be a mother someday. Bringing up children is a tough but fulfilling job. And to help me in my profession, I always carry with me one of Montessori’s quotes that goes “The greatest gifts we can give our children are the roots of responsibility and the wings of independence.” Working at SAA is both wonderful and rewarding. We are a family bound by the central belief in “Putting the EQ into IQ” and to create engaging and stimulating early childhood learning experiences for the children.
Fast forward, I am not only a fulfilled teacher but also a happy mum to a brilliant 3-year-old boy and a wife to a wonderful husband.

Hi , I’m Emma, Ma Lao Shi. I am from China. I graduated from Shenyang University and I majored in early childhood education.
As an early childhood educator, I believe that each child is unique and we should teach children in accordance with their aptitude and interests. I am engaged in the preschool education industry with love, patience and responsibility for children, and use my knowledge and teaching experience to lead children to try different activities. I think the best way to learn is to let children learn through play and use Children’s songs, stories, and games to cultivate children’s interest and confidence in learning Chinese.
I am thrilled to join Swallows and Amazons Kindergarten and I look forward to accompanying the children on their Mandarin Learning journey.

Hi, my name is Salwa Abu Bakar and I have been working at Swallows and Amazons for a little over 7 years. I have been in the Early Childhood field for about a decade and have worked as a teaching assistant and a teacher in both local and international schools in Singapore. I have a Diploma in Montessori Method of teaching and a Fundamental Certification in Early Childhood Education. To continuously improve myself, I am currently pursuing and advancing my studies in the Early Years Education.
Working at Swallows has given me the opportunity to grow and upgrade myself. I enjoy coming to work, especially seeing the children having a great time in school. I love to create a learning environment where the children are able to explore their creativity and imagination through work and play.
I believe that a committed and compassionate teacher is one who can make a huge difference to every single child. I strive to be the best so that I can create an inclusive, developmental and inquiring early learning environment for those in my care.

Hi, I’m Ms. Huda Roslan. I joined Swallows and Amazons as a Teacher’s Assistant in May 2017. I have a Diploma in Info-Communications and a Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education. I am a fully qualified L2 Teacher. I worked in an International Preschool in Singapore as a teacher for two years before I left to work in the banking industry.
After 5 years in banking, I re-joined the Early Childhood Education industry as it provides me with a sense of fulfilment. I love children and have a passion for working with them. My goal for the students in my care is to build confidence, independence and instil a positive attitude as well as respect for diversity in the children so that they can apply it in real life.
Working at Swallows and Amazons has not only allowed me to grow as an individual, but also, I get to celebrate the little things in life every day with the children. Each day brings new excitement, like a child losing a tooth or getting that new pair of shoes- being a part of these joyful occasions and seeing their beautiful smiles and getting random hugs from them, is the reason why I love working with children and be a part of the Early Childhood industry.

My name is Di Davies & I have been working, as a teaching assistant at Swallows and Amazons for 12 years now. I'm British & have been living in Asia for the past 27 years, the last 22 being in Singapore. After leaving the U.K. I took a career break from Optics and worked in a medical practice in Hong Kong. It was when my children were attending pre-school in Singapore that I decided this was an area I'd enjoy working in.
I enjoy working here because I believe that learning should be fun. As Plato said 'The most effective kind of education is that a child should play amongst lovely things.' And this is what we do at Swallows & Amazons. Also, the children are encouraged to be curious, to explore, to be risk takers, and to be independent. I get great fulfillment out of my work & the children's comments & expressions always make me smile - to see the look of excitement on their faces when a science experiment works or a comment such as 'I can't believe I could do that!' always makes my day!

I have graduated with a Diploma in Accounting. I worked in a Finance Department at a local university before. Hello, I am Ms Yamin who recently joined Swallows and Amazons as a teacher-in-training! I hold a Diploma in Child Psychology and Early Education and has an L2 certification from the Early Childhood Developmental Agency (ECDA). This allows be to be the lead teacher for children aged between 18 months and 6 years old.
What drew me to SAA was the philosophy of “putting the EQ into IQ” which aligned with my beliefs that socio-emotional development is of great importance for young children and that their learning should be holistic. As such, I hope to nurture the children under my care, letting them grow to be curious and confident explorers who are independent learners with love for learning. Additionally, I also hope to not only teach the children but learn and grow with them as well since learning never stops!

Hello everyone! I am Miss Amira and I have been working as a Teaching Assistant in Swallows and Amazons since the start of 2021.
I was a Freelance Enrichment Preschool Teacher for 2 years and was exposed to teaching Phonics, Olympiad Mathematics as well as Speech and Drama to N1-K2 children. After that, I decided to further my studies in Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Education) at James Cook University and successfully graduated in December 2020.
I believe that children deserve to learn in an inclusive classroom and that every child should be able to receive high quality education without any discrimination. It is also crucial to promote equity and excellence in children’s learning and development as this will then allow them to be successful learners, confident and creative individuals as well as active and informed citizens. Additionally, I believe that children learn best through play as they learn how to socialise, think creatively, negotiate, notice new things and overcome barriers. As SAA’s philosophy is “putting the EQ into IQ”, I believe that play helps to develop positive attitudes in children towards learning, giving a good foundation for continuous success at school and skills for life-long learning.
